While you were on summer vacation, the library gremlins and I (well, mostly I) were hard at work updating your new library space. Yes, there are new books. Yes, there really are gremlins in the library, but you need to have library powers to see them.
A lot of you are familiar with graphic novel series like The Babysitters' Club and Wings of Fire but we have a lot more graphic novel adaptations of amazing books.

November is Hindu heritage month! Here is some basic information from the Encyclopedia Britannica: Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest major religions. Some ideas and practices of Hinduism date back more than 3,000 years. Over the centuries, however, its followers—called Hindus—have developed many new ideas and combined them with the old ones. More than 1 billion people practice Hinduism worldwide. Most of them live in India, where Hinduism began, but many live in other places throughout the world. "Hinduism." Britannica School, Encyclopædia Britannica, 19 Aug. 2024. school.eb.com/levels/elementary/article/Hinduism/353249. Accessed 5 Nov. 2024.
We have lots of books celebrating Hindu heritage: check out the school library catalogue for my recommended list at the top of the page. One of my favourites is Binny's Diwali because the pictures are super cute. If you're looking for something more romantic, there's A Batch Made In Heaven for those of you with a sweet tooth. And if you're looking for something with drama, try the brand new The Hoop Con.
I'm always working on new books! Sometimes I get a big order that takes me a while to finish cataloguing. But once these books are catalogued, they're ready to borrow. Here's a sneak preview of some new titles that anyone can borrow.
For the rest of the month, we're looking for Black Excellence in our library. I guarantee you've read some of these titles before:

What is a comfort read? A lot of people read the same books over and over again. It's like wearing a favourite cosy sweater, or listening to your favourite song on repeat. These books are called "comfort reads" because they're like that sweater or song. I think comfort reads are like friends; they provide guidance and wisdom. Sometimes you can get something new from a book even if you've read it many times. It doesn't matter who the book is "for", because books are for everyone and anyone can find a book comforting. These are some examples of books I find comforting to read. They're picture books, graphic novels, even a book about environmentalism. All of them provided me with comfort and positive feelings, especially when I was feeling down. What books are comforting to you?
Once you're done giggling, did you know that these Yellow Cedar titles are all the best Canadian non-fiction nominated by YOU, the reader? Non-fiction, true stories, are like food for your brain.
